Just 15 miles from the French Manor Inn & Spa, Mountain Creek Stables is known for having some of the best horseback riding in the Poconos. Their horse-drawn sleigh rides are no exception. Unlike traditional horseback riding offered year-round in the Poconos, the sleigh rides are only available after the New Year. However, it’s important to note that they are only offered with at least six inches of packed snow. Unlike the stable’s other riding options, the horse-drawn sleigh rides yield no age restrictions. This makes it the perfect activity for up to 12 people. The sleigh ride takes visitors through historic Pocono Manor with views of snow-brushed cottages rich with history.
In addition to being a great family-friendly option, the horse-drawn sleigh rides also make for the most romantic date. Couples are welcome to snuggle up in blankets, take in the sights of the Poconos, and finish off the night in the dining room at our award-winning restaurant. A little further from the French Manor Inn & Spa, Daisy Field Farm is nestled on its own private farm and wildlife preserve. Owners Mike and Judy Mertz have been managing the service for over 35 years. The Mertz know firsthand how horse-drawn sleigh rides can enhance travelers’ overall vacation experience. Part of this experience is seeing wildlife on their private farm. Because the Mertz don’t allow hunting on their farm, sleigh riders can see wild deer and other creatures as if they’re in an enchanted forest.

Herb Alpert turned to jazz’s Shorty Rogers — then toiling in the L.A. film and TV studios — for voice and string arrangements on his Christmas album, and Rogers in turn went all out for schmaltz. Rogers’ cooing voices introduce several of the tunes, whereupon the Tijuana Brass do their mostly unrelated Ameriachi thing familiar from past albums. Indeed, “Las Mananitas” seems to have been lifted from an obscure B-side of a 45 and overdubbed with the Rogers treatment. Jingling bells is a recurring song theme — first with “Jingle Bells,” then the cloying “The Bell That Couldn’t Jingle,” and ultimately “Jingle Bell Rock.” For the first time in a long time, Alpert’s sense of pacing occasionally goes awry; “My Favorite Things” nearly comes apart in the silences and piano/vocal interlude between the TJB grooves, and “Sleigh Ride” screeches to a dead halt. And yet time and further exposure has revealed this record’s homey charms, which no doubt is one reason why it continues to be available on CD where other TJB best-sellers have fallen by the wayside. ― Allmusic
